GPS - Parcel Tracking at the Speed of Light

mandata

The GPS (Global Positioning System) is used by millions of people around the world. Providing accurate location and navigation services, GPS has been used in military, commercial, medical, transport, research and civilian applications.

GPS receivers calculate their exact location by collecting and timing signals sent from satellites in space, of which four or more must be used to gather data. These satellites are continually transmitting messages that comprise the time of transmission and the position of the satellite when the transmission occurs. At the speed of light, the transit time of each message is determined and the receiver uses these messages to pinpoint its location. This information can then be displayed to the end-user in a number of ways, typically on a map. GPS signals are unaffected by weather conditions.

Although it didn't become fully operational until 1994, the GPS was first developed by Roger L. Easton and his team at the U.S. Department of Defense in 1973. The roots of the project can be traced back even further into the 1960s, when classified engineering research projects began. Ideas from these projects were integrated to form the basis of the GPS project as it exists today, overcoming the many limitations of previous systems.

The entire Kenley's fleet of diverse, modern vehicles is equipped with GPS in order to allow our customers to track deliveries in real time, from the point of dispatch to final delivery. Our vehicles range from compact express vans to fully-articulated 44-ton wagons and encompass everything inbetween, meaning we can transport loads of any size from a single parcel to 28,000kg of goods. A variety of trailers complements the fleet, including doubledeck, flatbed and lowloader.
